Quicken 2006 XG Security Detail View jkemp 11-04-2007

I recently moved Quicken 2006 XG to a new Toshiba Satellite A200-AH6
notebook computer running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition from an
older Toshiba laptop running XP. Now, when I select a security in
Security Detail view so that I can make manual price updates, see
performance graphs, etc., there is a delay of at least 20 seconds
moving from one security to the next. If I re-boot in Safe Mode, re-
start Quicken and select a security to edit in detail view, the
problem disappears.

Quicken support claims that this is a Windows problem and has no
solutions to offer. I tried upgrading to Quicken 2008 but the same
behaviour occurs.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Hi,
Have not had this particular problem, but ...

Sounds to me like you have some type of conflict with another
'Startup' item. To find out which you will need to do some
experimentation.

First, try to reboot without any of the programs listed in your Start -
> All Programs -> StartUp group
If this does not fix the problem, try Start ->Run ->msconfig.exe-
>Startup and deselect itmes that are not requred by the system. Each
time you deselect one, reboot and try Quicken. When you find the
problem, you will either need to get an update or run without it.

This takes some time, but is likely the cause of your problem.

cheers
peter

Thanks for the suggestions Peter. Your suggestion makes sense but I
tried it all with no success. I de-selected all start-up items and
all services and re-booted. The same delay occurs in Security Detail
View. The only time that this function works normally (about 1 second
between security changes) is in safe mode. I don't know what gets
loaded between safe mode and regular start-up without an start-up
items and or services, that's messing with Quicken but it must be
something in Vista?

Going to Vista was not my choice - I was happy with XP but had to
upgrade due to a hardware crash on my old computer. Again, thanks for
your input - any other ideas always welcome.

Regards,

John

I can almost guarantee you that you had NO choice.

More than likely, you did not do enough research to find out
what choices you had.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to say that ... I meant to say the =
opposite.

I can almost guarantee you that you did have a choice.
