I continuesly get error 1638 with installation of original CD Quicken =
2006 Deluxe,. I uninstalled and deleted all information of an earlier =
version 2000, but still get error 1638 when I want to install Quciken =
2006.

I went to the Quicken site and downloaded 2 files and ran them. Still =
same error. Then the site directed me to the MS site and downloaded 1 =
file there and ran it. Still the same error.

The earlier 2000 version was in a different folder and all has been =
deleted, yet I cannot install 2006.

When I do a SEARCH for Quicken it finds nothing, yet always the install =
error 1638.

Unbelievable poor software!

How can I proceed?

Maybe this will help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

"People say Microsoft paid 14M$ for using the Rolling Stones song
'Start me up' in their commercials. This is wrong. Microsoft payed
14M$ only for a part of the song. For instance, they didn't use the
line 'You'll make a grown man cry'."

Thanks. I went there before, downloaded the file, signed on as Administrator
and excuted the file.

Still no luck. Still get erro 1638 and in Safe Mode 1601.

Also downloaded 2 files from MS, executed them, still the same error
message.
Unbelievable stupid SW not to allow you a brand new version automatically.

Have spent 2 days so far without success.

Did you try following the instructions posted on the Quicken FAQ site?

Here's a link for convenience.

There's always been something strange about the way the Intuit
kb site handles links to it. It's like you can't get there from
here.

The only reliable way I've found to post links to kb articles is
to use the following url with the correct kb article number
substituted for the 4 digit number you see at the end (watch the
wrap).

https://quicken.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/quicken.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4108

You can also just post the kb article number itself. If a user
goes to the support site and keys the 4 digit article number
into the search box and clicks Search, a link to that article
will be returned.
