I have several credit cards in my Quicken file. Most, thankfully, are direct
download, but Cap One, as big a company as they are, still has only Web
Connect downloads (QFX). Generally, I don't use those cards too much, as
there always seems to be a problem with Quicken and the QFX files. As far as
I can recall, this issue has been a problem since Q2006 (for me).
One day (2006 or later), when downloading a QFX file for a CC account (for
which I had been DLing transactions for awhile), Q couldn't find the right
account to open the QFX file to (even though AFAIK nothing had changed in
the account. I am the only user.), so it produced a window to choose an
account to download the file to. The only problem is that, out of the 6
active cards, the window offers only an account that was closed several
years ago. My other option is to create a new account.
The window:
_____________________________________________
You are downloading transactions for the following account:
Financial Institution: gives correct info
Account Type: gives correct info
Account Number: Gives correct account info (CC #)
____________________________________________
The 'Use an existing Quicken account' option is checked by default, and
there is only *one* account listed in the drop down field, and this is the
account that has been long ago closed. The other option is to create a new
account.
Having recently upgraded from Q2008D to Q2010D, I decided to give it another
try. Same results. I really hate to have to hide this perfectly good account
to open a new one (and who knows, perhaps the same issue will occur), and
I'm baffled as to why I should have to. Can't quicken find the account for
which is lists the proper acct. #?
The account is activated in the Online Services tab of the Account Details
window. The details are:
_____________________________________________________
One Step Update
This account is connected via Web Connect
One Step Update is activated Deactivate
(button)
_____________________________________________________
It would be nice to be able to DL transactions for these accounts. Is this a
known issue? Thanks for any suggestions.

I guess I should say that I'm attempting to open the file by logging into
the website, choosing to open the file, after which Q opens, offering the
option to save or open the file, choosing to open or save and later import
into Q produces the same results described in my OP.
I suppose I should also say that, rather than register Q or tolerate the Reg
nags, I used the ctrl + shift trick to eliminate the nag. Could this be the
problem? Must Quicken be registered to handle Web Connect (seems like the
same would apply to all of my DD accounts also, but no problems there...)?
Thanks!
Mikel

OK...deactivating One Step Update (although I didn't activate it myself...it
was always Web Connect) solved the problem. The wierd thing is that with OSU
activated, the Online Services tab show as is pasted:

> _____________________________________________________
> One Step Update
> This account is connected via Web Connect
> One Step Update is activated Deactivate
> (button)
> _____________________________________________________
Kind of confusing...shows that connection is acheived via WC and OSU is
activated. Deactivating OSU, although solving the problem, removes the Web
Connect reference and changes the window to state:
_________________________________________________
OSU is available Activate OSU
(button)
A connection has been made between
this account and (name) Card Services Remove Connection (button)
_________________________________________________
No reference to Web Connect and states that OSU is available, which it is
not, and when OSU is activated, the account doesn't show up in the OSU
window.
Oh well, I guess I should be grateful that I can again (after many years) DL
QFX files.

Mikel:
Capital One supports Web Connect.
When you do a One Step Update, you are actually using Express Web Connect.
A completely different animal than the Direct Connect One Step Update of
Quicken 2006 and earlier.

Since I deactivated (and am able to DL and open the QFX file), an option
appeared in the OSU window to activate OSU for the Cap One Card Services. I
did and am now able to DL transactions from within Quicken. A very nice
change. Thanks for the heads up!
