I'm trying to take advantage of more of the current program's capability
(Q2005HB) so I'm reexamining accounts and categories I've created over the
years and simply rolled over from Quicken version to version. I've found I
have Income flowing into two interest categories; one preset by Quicken (
_IntInc ) and the other apparently set up by me with a few subcategories
which I must have thought would prove helpful in the future. Both flow
correctly to tax schedules but these too much chance for confusion down the
road. My best bet would be to fold one of these into the other. At least
that's what I thought until I finally found this in the HELP file:
"Categories with names beginning with an underscore (_) are used in
investment transactions. Quicken adds these categories to the list when you
add your first investment account. These are the only categories you can't
edit or delete."
If there's any folding to be done, this pretty much sets the direction of
the flow. Even though my checking accounts were placed by Quicken into the
group of "Spending Accounts" as opposed to "Savings" or "Investing"
accounts, I suppose I should switch the links in the checking accounts from
the categories I created and simply let all interest flow to the account I
can't change or delete anyway; " _IntInc ".
Anyone see any reason to do otherwise? Apparently when I began using Quicken
many years ago, I didn't notice the preset underscore accounts.
