Quicken Home & Business 2008 - Preferences reverting back to defaults Melvin 03-15-2008

Just wanted to check if this has been happening for anybody else.

3 times now, in the past 1 month, I have started up Quicken and found that
some of my customized preferences have reverted back to the default
settings.

FYI I upgraded from Quicken XG 2004 to Quicken Home & Business 2008 about 5
weeks ago. I am using the Canadian version (not sure if it's different from
the US one).

Example:

1. I go into Quicken Preferences via "Edit | Preferences | Quicken Program"
2. I select "Register" category at left and then do the following:
3. Uncheck the "Show Tag field" box
4. Check the "Show Memo before Category" box.
5. Check the "Remove memorized payees not used in last [N] months" box and
change N to "6".

I can exit / restart the program several times and the settings are
preserved.

Then, I come back and use the program again, and find that the settings have
reverted back to the program defaults.

Note:
I have my computer set to go into Standby mode. I used to find that the
computer would NOT go into standby if I had left Quicken 2004 running; it
used to put up a hokey "denied" message and say "exit Quicken first". I
find that I get a similar message with Quicken 2008 but it still goes into
standby. Am wondering if this is related to subject problem at all.

---
I have used Quicken for the past 20 years - going all the way back to the
DOS versions. Tired of the bugs.

You should be able to verify this for yourself. Just exit
Quicken and restart Quicken without waiting for (allowing) your
computer to go into standby mode.

[I made two of the three changes you mentioned (skipping the
"Remove memorized payees ..." option), exited Quicken, restarted
Quicken ... and my changes were retained.]

Sorry, I meant to mention that I tested with Q2008 Premier, R6,
U.S.

Thanks for checking John. I have taken your suggestion and will now keep a
log of how things appear on each startup & try to relate any future
reversion to what happened just prior.

I think the problem is probably more complex than just making a change,
exiting & restarting the problem. It likely depends on doing something else
in addition. For example (and I don't mean to suggest this is it), it might
only occur during / after a session in which you do an online update
(download checking account data) / or during which you do an online update
and there are no updates - for the problem to manifest itself. I will be
keeping an eye on things like this.

I forgot to mention that I am on Windows XP. However, my father also uses
Quicken Home & Business 2008 (Canadian edition) and he is using Windows
Vista (Home Ultimate). The problem I describe DOES occur for him also.
