Quicken Home Inventory - anyone get this to run? Craig 09-11-2007

Well I just picked up my Quicken Premier 2008 and it came with a free copy
of Quicken Home Inventory. Thought this was a good deal, until I tried to
actually install QHI. It seemed to install fine, then when I tried to run
it, it said I need .Net 2.0. Fortunately I knew what that meant, so I
downloaded and installed .net 2.0.

However, every time I try to run the Home Inventory Program, it generates an
exception. I tried this on two completely different computers, same result.
Both running XP Pro with latest updates and SP2.

Anyone else having trouble with this? I have an e-mail in to support after
an unsuccessful chat session with Intuit chat support.

Yes, I do/did, and it's probably because you have a Logitech wireless mouse
and have the Mouse and Keyboard settings utility running in memory (look in
your system tray). Stop setpoint.exe process and the Home Inventory program
will run.

In my case, I'll let setpoint load at boot up and just stop it any time I
want to access Home Inventory.

Great suggestion - I do have Logitech, and it so happens I have the exact
same issue with Pinnacle Studio. At any rate, this wasn't the problem for
QHI. I uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it, this time instead of
clicking setup.exe, I clicked qhiinstall.exe, and the installation appeared
to do a lot more, required a restart, and now finally loads.

Unfortunately, I also found that now I get a JIT debugger error when trying
to convert my old QHI file. What a pain!! And no way to import/export as
text file or anything, so I have to manually re-enter everything. I'm
guessing there is very little R&D spent on this product. You can just tell
it's not as polished. Even the box has a typo in the requirements section
800MB required for .Net 2.0
