Quicken: Memorized Transactions Sam 04-02-2007

Is there a way that Quicken will automatically assign a category to a
transaction that I downloaded from my bank/credit card company? I setup
(memorize) the transaction but only the current transaction is
memorized. I have about a hundred "old" transactions that have the same
payee information but different amount. I can't add a category or at
least update the payee with the category info unless I do so manually.
I have an older version of Quicken (2002).

Thx

I'm not following your problem.

Quicken will use your Memorized Payee list to assign a category
to any "new" transaction whose payee name matches the memorized
payee name: "new" transactions are either designated as "New"
immediately following a download (but before being "Accepted"),
or they are manually entered by you as new.

Quicken will not change the category of any transaction already
in your register unless you explicitly tell it to. You can tell
Quicken to do that selecting the transaction in the register and
manally by rekeying the category, or you can tell Quicken to do
that en masse by using Find/Replace (or Recategorize).

Thank you, I didnt use the Find/Replace (or Recategorize). For example.
I added a category using Find/Replace to all my exisiting transactions
for Chevron. Now I have Auto: Fuel added. However, I am unsure how all
future transactions will be categorized to Auto: Fuel?

If you already have a Memorized Transaction for Chevron with a
category of Auto:Fuel, Quicken should categorize future "new"
transactions for Chevron to Auto:Fuel ... provided you have
QuickFill turned on. (QuickFill is controlled in Quicken
Program Preferences; you want both "Complete fields using
previous entries" and "Recall Memorized payees ...".)

I have a transaction called Chevron : Auto:Fuel, but I am unsure if how
it is memorized now is sufficient. Chevron shows up when downloaded
with it's own location inbedded in the Payee info. Eg. Chevron
Main/Vine. Do I have to create or memorize an exact match or is the
memorized Chevron : Auto:Fuel fine just the way it is? In addition, the
amount is 0.00 and Lck and Cal are not selected (dunno what Cal is?).
