This is weird - either my brain is malfunctioning, or Quicken is!

My financial institution just started up the Quicken download, so some of my
checking entries are already reconciled via online downloads, and some of
the past month's are not. In using the paper statement to "catch up" the
account through the month of January the reconciled balance is off by about
$43, and one (I suspect perhaps more as well) of the past transactions does
not show up in the reconcile list. A cash withdrawal of $100 on Jan 31st
appears in the check register, but no matter if I manually change it from
cleard to reconciled, or clear the reconciled flag, the transaction will not
appear in the January reconciliation list of debits.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this some sort of bug in Quicken 09?

do remember that transactions dated past the closing date don't show
up in a manual reconcile.

There are two dates associated with a transaction - the date you see
and the "posting" date which you can see by the arcane "right click
for menu, hold ctrl, click on copy" to see the secret info. I don't
know which date counts for reconcile.

My guess is that the transaction you deleted had a "posting" date that
prevented it from qualifying for the reconcile. When you deleted and
re-entered the transaction, it got a posting date that was blank ... and
blank posting dates qualify for every reconcile.

[I don't think you needed to exit Quicken after deleting the transaction.]
