This is a whole lot more informative than the comments when making the
installation.

Hi, Gordon.

Thanks for that link.

Note that if you are running 64-bit WinXP or Vista, the "Common Files"
subfolder referred to in A3 (the answer to Q3) will be in C:Program Files
(x86), rather than in C:Program Files. In my Vista, the file version is
shown on the Details tab of Properties; there is no Version tab there.

My file versions were 4.0.0.101 for AWAPI4.dll and 5.0.0.7 for AWAPI5.dll,
so "the security patch has been applied" and I'm good to go. ;<)
Apparently Quicken 2008 R5 took care of that for me. The "Customer
Notification" never mentioned R5; I suppose that is because the "fix" has a
different name for each of the Intuit products affected. The "Date
modified" on those Details tabs is 10/02/07, not 12/11/07; apparently the
patch did not "modify" that date.

"...The risk involves AnswerWorks software, which is licensed from Vantage
and developed on Microsoft's ActiveX platform. ..."

Well, that's the problem: ActiveX (the Mother Of All Security Exploit
Vectors) is used. I would have thought that Microsoft would have put
ActiveX to a quiet death by now.
