Cool. Buy it in September, and have it working by January... or
February... or ??? I buy last year's version after you early adopters
test it for me and shake out the bugs. Q2007 is working great. I think
it was $10 on Ebay.
Oh No, now comes another Ebay are all illegal copies thread. Nope. I've
always gotten an actual, real, authentic DVD.
But, I'd sign the petition anyway. Another holiday is always nice. :-)

Jim - I assume you know that I wrote my original somewhat tongue-in-cheek,
but I will say that despite being on the bleeding edge for virtually EVERY
release of Q since the early DOS days , I have *never* had any problems
installing the newest version out of the chute and using it that forced me
to ever go back. Not once. Sure, there are many mostly minor irritations
(especially when they CHANGE something that one can't back out of; that
stupid logo indicating an entry in a register is 'tax-related' drove me
crazy when it first came out, but now I'm largely used to ignoring it....),
it's always worked for me.
Now part of that is that I am also NOT using the latest Microshaft software
(if I can stay on XP forever, I will...why people (And this I am serious)
went to VISTA so early given a choice is really beyond me! - Sorry R.C.!) or
the latest and greatest hardware, so I think of my configuration as fairly
standard and part of a normal testing that Intuit must be doing on newer
releases.
But for me, Q has always been my favorite app that I probably spend most of
my time in, so there you go.
(I just REALLY hope they finally put in true Certificate of Deposit support
in this year coming up and not forcing a kludge. My number one gripe.)

I went to Vista with the first beta (called Longhorn then) and have few
problems. A couple of years back I dumped my XP installation and now
run Vista Ultimate 64 exclusively.
Like others, I had some problems with 64 bit drivers and Logitech still
hasn't sorted theirs out yet. Everything else was operational by the
time Vista went RTM.
On topic = the Logitech Setpoint drivers for Vista 64 conflict with
Quicken, if I install even the latest version, Billminder won't open
other than on boot. Once it opens during boot, it can't be opened
again. It's a very minor bug but the fix is easy, I just run MSFT's
Intellipoint. It works with my Logitech MX400 Laser mouse *IF* I
connect it to a PS2 port. I fixed that by picking up a cheap, second
hand MSFT mouse, an Intellimouse Explorer which works perfectly, of
course.
I really don't see any reason NOT to run Vista, there's some additional
security, it handles hardware that XP won't (I can't run my TV Tuner
card properly in XP) and, although people talk about bloat, that's
silly. It takes more space to do more and terabyte hard drives are now
under $170!

Thanks for the post. Well, like I said in my previous post, my machine is
several years old, so although theorterically I *could* put VISTA on, I
don't think I would want to. Both my kids have laptops with Vista, so I
play with it over on their machines. I am sure that when I eventually go to
a new computer, I'll get on it....unless I hold out for Windows 7 if it
appears as early as SOME people are predicting (like, by end of this year!)
(Ethel the wife is grumbling about how 'slow' my machine is after she plays
with the kids laptops...so it's coming. And Christmas is only a mere 5
months and 3 or so days away...)

I've been asked by many folks (including the executives at the Hospice I
support) whether I recommend *upgrading* to Vista. My answer has always
been "Why?". Vista does have bigger hardware requirements and you have
to be sure that all your hardware and software is supported under Vista
or drivers and upgrades are available.
Let me make it clear that I do not recommend upgrades of operating
systems in general. It's almost always a bad thing and prone to
problems. It also propagates underlying problems that can only get
worse. A clean install is always the best option....
Having said that, I'm comfortable telling folks to get Vista on a new
computer as long as they configure it with enough horsepower. OEM's like
Dell tend to start with minimum memory, for example, and that will make
the experience a bad one.... With Vista, you'll see folks like me tell
you 1GB is the absolute minimum and 2GB is the strongly recommended amount.
