John,
In the past you have provided me with much help with Q, both in direct
response to my questions and by answering other people who had the
same questions as I when I searched the archives. I respect your
opinion and helpfulnes to this ng. But I must say I'm a bit surprised
at the response to a simple, clearly labeld test message.
On the scale of social ills and nettiquette faux paux, causing people
to see a msg header that says "test - please ignore" has got to be
pretty low on the scale. I'm active in a several ng's and other
forums, but don't recall ever seeing anyone anywhere else bother
calling out a clearly labled test msg. In fact, most places I
visit/post consider such a subject quite acceptable. I am surprised
anyone even opened and read it to find out whether or not there was a
disclaimer in the body. Why would they? The subject *says* "test -
please ignore". What part that subject line do people not understand?
What causes people to NOT be able to ignore it?
And I certainly didn't considered my follow-up a rant. Dripping
sarcasm, perhaps . . .
Anyway, this has already gone on WAAYYY too long.
