You might consider using one of the test fora for this purpose Ed. Perhaps
you're new to the internet and/or NewsGroups (NG?)? Look at 'alt.alt.test'
for example. Thanks - I know I'd appreciate the courtesy next time!

You assume much. I was makeing some newsreader config changes
specific to this NG.

I'm sorry you find the mere appearance of a clearly labeld 'please
ignore' msg such an intrusion that that you feel it necessary to spend
much more of your time, computer resources, and net bandwidth to call
me out than the original msg consumed.

Whatever. You sure don't need to get sarcastic with someone who was trying
to help you. A bad way to get assistance in NGs, my friend.

Perhaps in the future you could put this: "makeing [sic] some
newsreader config changes specific to this NG" in the body of
your test message and avoid having to send the follow up rant.
Many who submit test messages don't realize that there are
groups setup for that purpose.

John,

In the past you have provided me with much help with Q, both in direct
response to my questions and by answering other people who had the
same questions as I when I searched the archives. I respect your
opinion and helpfulnes to this ng. But I must say I'm a bit surprised
at the response to a simple, clearly labeld test message.

On the scale of social ills and nettiquette faux paux, causing people
to see a msg header that says "test - please ignore" has got to be
pretty low on the scale. I'm active in a several ng's and other
forums, but don't recall ever seeing anyone anywhere else bother
calling out a clearly labled test msg. In fact, most places I
visit/post consider such a subject quite acceptable. I am surprised
anyone even opened and read it to find out whether or not there was a
disclaimer in the body. Why would they? The subject *says* "test -
please ignore". What part that subject line do people not understand?
What causes people to NOT be able to ignore it?

And I certainly didn't considered my follow-up a rant. Dripping
sarcasm, perhaps . . .

Anyway, this has already gone on WAAYYY too long.
