Hi all:
I typically run a One Step Update late each evening and, typically,
all my listed securities get a proper update showing that day's
closing prices.
Recently I've had several occasions when I didn't run One Step Update
in the evening but, instead, ran it the next morning. Every time I've
done this there have been a large number of listed securities that
ended up with "est" showing up alongside the prior day's closing
price. If I run the One Step Update after the market's opening these
same stocks *do* have updated prices for that day. The stocks with
missing quotes are for large-cap high-volume stocks (e.g., PG, MO,
etc.).
Anybody else seen this sort of thing? Any thoughts on the problem?
TIA.

I do not know but since you have yet to receive a reply then I will venture
a guess.
Perhaps its est since it has not yet opened but contains the previous eve
after hours trades.

Mutual funds or other securities that only update their price in the
evening will show "EST" because there is no current price for that
security, only one that is a day old.

PG and MO aren't mutual funds, there widely traded stocks.

I'm not usually up quite early enough in the morning to verify my
suspicion about this; but you can probably check it out fairly easily.
The "est" means Quicken does not have a price for the chosen Quicken "As
of" date, and is displaying the latest price it has prior to that date.
My assumption is that from 12.01am until 20 minutes after the markets open
(adjust for local time), Quicken's price servers will not provide any
prices for the current date. [And all mutual funds should have "est"
prices from 12.01am until sometime after markets close.] If true then the
financial institutions are the only source of prices during the 12.01 to
markets-open time frame.
Also, as suggested by another in this thread, it seems to me that the only
valid prices for 12.01am to the opening of markets, are after hours
prices.
If the assumptions are true, one thing to check: are the non-"est" prices
valid?
A second thing to check is the source of the prices.
Before doing a One Step Update, do a "Download Quotes" from the Portfolio
tab. Note the prices you get, if any: they can only have come from
Quicken quote sources. Then do a One Step Update, and see if you get
prices that weren't downloaded in "Download Quotes"; they likely came from
your financial institution(s).
If you're getting some valid after hours prices from your fi's; they
should be able to tell you why others of those after hours prices are not
available.
If you're getting valid after hours prices from Quicken ... I doubt there
is anyway to determine why you get some and not others. But the Quicken
Live Community is the only place I can think to try.
