If it's a known problem, it's news to me.
Quicken renaming rules apply to payees, not to securities.
I have never had a problem when Quicken received an investment
account download with a security name it had not seen before and
I told Quicken what existing security to match it to. Quicken
has never "forgotten" what I "told" it. (That happens extremely
rarely for me, by the way. )
But, that process does not create a "renaming rule": it matches
an exact name in a download to one specific security that
already exists in Quicken. From that point on, the two
different security names are matched by CUSIP.
