I would like to have a good retirement planning program to run to
checkout/validate Quicken's version. Any suggestions?

Make a spreadsheet. It will be transparent, frustrating, and will expose the
grubby details. Very rewarding and informative if you do it honestly.

I've looked at moneytree.com's silver planner. It's too expensive,
but for your purposes you could use a trial version. They have
useful example on their web page as well. Here is a page with
some other examples:

That's a good list, although very simple comparisons. Not too many details
to help a person understand the capabilities of each tool. It also doesn't
consider J & L Planner (http://www.jlplanner.com/) which shows up on every
web search for financial planning software.

I'm looking for something that works for a very detailed financial plan that
has many changes in income, and expenses in the future. I could pay our
financial planner $3k a pop to enter our data into a software tool they use,
or buy software for much less and do it myself. I'm not afraid to fork out
the $$$ if it's a worthy program. I've found some that cost as much as $850
but all of these products seem to be so elusive that it's hard to know if
they are worth their weight or not.

If anyone has any experience with any of the programs mentioned, I'd like to
hear about your experience.

Cheers,
Scott

Any chance you have a Fidelity IRA or 401(k)? They have online retirement
planners.
