Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions and issues. I
truly appreciate your help and the help of the other person who responded.

If newsgroups do not do RSS Feeds, then why was I able to add one of the
other newsgroups on this site (Rockryno.com)as an RSS Feed. Also why do I
see the RSS Feed symbol prominently displayed next to the Group listing
for all the group here and also near this one in "My Groups."

I guess I do not understand the difference between this Rockryno.com site
and athenanews.com. I thought when I signed up for Rockryno.com I would
be signing up for access to the server through my newsreader in Windows
Live Mail. I have other free newsgroup accounts available there. I do have
have a Google account and I am signed up for this newsgroup there, but I
cannot figure out how to get that to show up in Windows Live Mail either.
Some how I'm missing some key piece of information, and I've tried to find
an answer with Google help but cannot seem to find it.

The last time I checked the Contact form displayed errors as well.

Normally newsgroups are carried by news servers. It has only been within the
past few years that accessing newsgroups via web pages has become popular.
Google Groups (formerly known as DejaNews) started it years ago. RSS feeds
into windows mail is trying to replicate using a news server. One drawback
with RSS feeds is that they are read only. If you want to post you have to
go back to google groups or through a real news server. Some how
Rockryno.com is accessing the athena news server when you post. (I can tell
from your headers).

If you would like to access this news group through windows mail then you
need to configure WLM to access the athena news server directly. Go to this
page that I posted the other day: http://athenanews.com/members/. You will
need a userid and password from athena to complete the setup.

Merrily,

Newsgroups are part of Usenet, and are hosted on various
servers that propagate postings among themselves. Various sites
may provide access to these newsgroups through their own
front-end web based portals, but these are of their own design,
and not part of the Usenet newsgroup structure. Newsreaders
access a news server directly to download desired headers and
content from groups of interest hosted on their provider's
servers.

Hi, Merrily.

And, to add to what Laura and Leonard said...

Outlook Express has been bundled into every copy of Windows for at least a
decade; Windows Mail is the updated version in every copy of Vista. (OE
won't run on Vista; WM won't run on anything else.) Most of us who have
tried the newer Windows Live Mail like it better than either OE or WM - and
it will run on both WinXP and Vista. In fact, we can run WLM side-by-side
with OE or WM, although I don't see why anyone would after a brief
transition period.

OE/WM/WLM all include a newsreader, which I much prefer to the web-based
(browser) interface for reading newsgroups.

In addition to the thousands of free news servers that offer more than
100,000 newsgroups (last time I checked was years ago), Microsoft hosts over
2,000 NGs for peer-to-peer support of MS products on its public news server
(msnews.microsoft.com), which is free and does not require you to log on.
Many of the other news servers (also known by several other names, such as
Forums or Discussion Groups) "slurp" messages from the host servers and
relay them - and any responses - to and from their own subscribers (often
without disclosing their Microsoft source).

WLM includes access to RSS feeds, but I've not yet learned much about blogs
and RSS feeds so I don't know how those relate to newsgroups.
