If I have income from two states and I want to do one using TTax
Deluxe and I want to do the other manually, will TTax Deluxe let me do
that?

Will TTD let me do the one state tax without downloading the software
for the other if I have checked that I have income from more than one
state?

Daughter moved last year so she has about 11 months of earnings from
the state I live in, and for which I downloaded the tax software, and
about one month of earnings from another state.

She has already filed her federal tax using TTax online. She started
her state taxes using TTax online but she said it got pretty confusing
pretty quickly so she stopped.

I have TTax Deluxe. I would like to use it to do my daughter's tax for
my state.

Can I do just one state for her using TTD?

Do I have to do her federal tax over again in TTD before I go to state
tax or can I go right to the state tax?

Would you just pay for the additional state software and use that too?

How would you approach this situation?

Thanks!

One year (2000) I had to do 4 state tax returns. My home state (TN)
is so simple that it's a waste of money to use TTAX for that (in
addition, they offer the ability to fill out the return and file
online). So, that year, I used TTAX for NC (the most complicated of
my state returns that year), NJ & KS (bought a 2 add'l copies of TTAX
state).

TTAX had no problems with what I did.

Daughter was able to get TTax online working afterall so the problem
is resolved. Thanks for the responses.

As Dan Brown indicated,I I'd just get another state downloaded. It's up
to you and D who pays for it.

The "trick" is that she was 11 month residing in state 1 and 1 month in
state 2 (likely, but not 100 % clear from your post). Therefore she
would have to file part-year residence in each state, and that's indeed a
bit of a pain.
