In prior years (back to Turbotax for DOS ?), Forms Mode would allow
the user to locate errors in a tax return.
This functionality has been deleted in Turbotax Premier for 2008.
Searching the Help Topic, find two different Topics seemingly on point
#1 -- "ERROR ALERTS"
#2 -- "REVIEW ERRORS IN FORM MODE"
But with differing results --
"ERROR ALERTS" describes the functionality from prior years, stating
--
"To show the error alerts, go to the View menu and select Error
Alerts. When there is a check mark next to Error Alerts on the View
menu, the error alerts will appear."
Following those instructions, the Menu Bar's "View" (in Forms mode)
has the following lines (which can be checked or unchecked):
Step-by-Step Ctrl+1
Forms View Ctrl+2
Split View Ctrl+3
-----------------------------
Step-by-Step Topic (with choices not relevant)
-----------------------------
Smart Worksheets
Status Bar
There is no Error Alerts line to check.
"REVIEW ERRORS IN FORM MODE" -- appears to be a form by form error
search (you have to open the Form for it to work) which more
cumbersome.
Under the Menu Bar's "Forms", there is a entry for "Find Next Error
F7".
At this stage of my annual preparation, using estimates to get a
picture of anticipated taxes, I should have lots of errors. However,
the entry is greyed out unless I open a form that in fact has an
error.
In short, Turbotax 2008 omits functionality available in prior years.
