If the stock market looks like it's headed for a correction and I decide
to trim some of my holdings I'd like to quickly see totals for each
security in each account that has been held for at least 12 months.

I track 6 brokerage portfolios for myself and family members. Each one
only has 4 or 5 mutual funds in it but with frequent purchases during
the year and dividend reinvestments there are more than 100 open
positions all with different purchase dates. I'd like to create a view
that would tell me exactly which purchases have been held at least 12
months for each position in each account. I use Quicken Basic 2005.

1.) Investing Center > Portfolio tab
Customize any View to show "Holding period" and "Days to next
period". I think the "Quotes" view is already customized that
way. "Group by" "Accounts"; open each security in each account
to view each "lot".

2.) Investing > Capital Gains Estimator

Thanks for the response, John, but I can't seem to find a Capital Gains
Estimator in Quicken 2005 Basic. As for your suggestion in step 1, I can
already "see" the lots that are long term but Quicken is not offering a
way to total them. I have to add them manually to know exactly how many
shares (including all those annoying hundredths of a share) that I could
sell. This could be very time consuming and prone to errors so I was
hoping Quicken could do this automatically. Any other ideas?

I have 2005 Deluxe and it's under "Tax" on the top menu. I don't know
if Basic has it.

Sorry, I forgot to check your Quicken version. Capital Gains
Estimator is only available in Deluxe versions and higher.

As for the Portfolio tab: I would create a "view" just for the
purpose. Exclude unwanted accounts (Retirement accounts, for
example); unwanted securities (MM funds, for example); and with
just the columns that might be useful for the exercise.

Then open every account and security in the View and Print the
Portfolio View to a tab delimited file; then open it in Excel,
delete any rows you don't need, and get your totals there.
