In the process of preparing my Georgia 2005 return, I discovered that
Turbotax doesn't include all calculations in the "printed copy for my
records" (even when I printed all worksheets and details). The Georgia
return starts with income and deductions from the federal return and
then adds or subtracts to fit in with Georgia law. Specifically, in
2004 Georgia allowed me to deduct Georgia income tax but not sales tax.
As I had used sales tax on my 2004 1040 Schedule 8, Turbotax state 2004
did the appropriate calculation to subtract the sales tax and add the
Georgia income tax.
I had to run the 2004 Turbotax program to see what was going on. On
screen, the calculation showed up on the Georgia 500 form. On anything
printed it didn't show up. The onscreen version of the form had several
additional lines that were not on the printed form! It was also
strange that the calculation showed up on the main Georgia return form
as opposed to on the statement of additions and subtractions from the
Federal deductions.
