What Gets Matched on QIF Import? Dowser 07-19-2006

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what order and how many items are matched on a
"QIF" import.
I'm importing to a checking account. Quicken import says it has a
match on money taken out thru my ATM on other ATM dates than the
correct date of the ATM withdrawal leaving an incorrect balance.
I can change the match to new but I'm wondering why it doesn't
recognize the different dates. I'm using Quicken 2004

Thanks,
Keith

I think you're barking up the wrong tree with your question;
even if you could get an exact answer to the matching criteria
... you couldn't do anything about it.

I can tell you that the matching criteria for QIF file imports
are noticeably more liberal than the matching criteria for Web
Connect or Direct downloads. Why? Because you can easily
import the same QIF file data multiple times; while you can't do
that with Web Connect or Direct downloads.

No Quicken match rules for any type of download/import get the
matches correct every time.

The best solution: find an fi that offers Web Connect - or
better yet, Direct - downloads.

Thanks for the reply to my match question. Unfortunately I have to use
a FI that doesn't offer a direct download or WEB connect so I have to
import "QIF". I recently purchased Quicken Deluxe 2004 to do this.

If I was trying to match data I would first sort on dates and then try
to match the rest of the fields from there. Quicken doesn't sort on
the date first. I was hoping I could change the sort criteria but you
said I can't....maybe that's good. I can see where allowing users
access to the sort engine could create lots of problems.
