Perplexing!
When I rename my Quicken file in Windows, the load it into Quicken 2008
H&B, my net worth goes down to 1/3 the amount!
Is there some reason this should be?

Hi, Gary.
I've never used H&B, but renaming a Quicken file in Windows sounds like s
recipe for Instant Disaster! :>(
In Quicken 2009 Deluxe, we can use File | File Operations | Rename. While I
haven't tried it, I assume that this menu option will rename the *.QDF file
AND all the related files in the fileset.
As you probably know, what Intuit persists in calling "a file" is actually a
set of related files. They all have the same name (QDATA, by default), with
different extensions (QDATA.QDF, QDATA.QEL, etc.). Renaming only the QDF
file without renaming ALL the others is sure to cause confusion - or worse.
There may well be other entries in the Registry or in some subsidiary
Quicken file (like Quicken.ini) that also need to be updated for the renamed
files.
When you post back, be sure to also mention the operating system you are
using. Some things work differently in WinXP Pro SP3 than in Vista Ultimate
x64 SP1, for example.

I'm using XP Pro SP3 on 1 machine, Vista Home Basic (32 bit, NOT SP1) on
another. I have not seen anything different in Q2008 Deluxe between them,
but haven't compared things exhaustively.
What differences should I watch out for? Generally I am backing up from 1
machine to the other, if that helps.

Hi, Han.
Is your Reply in the right thread? Sounds like sort of non-sequitur. :^}

Hi RC!
You had said:
"Some things work differently in WinXP Pro SP3 than in Vista Ultimate
x64 SP1, for example."
So I am saying:
"I'm using XP Pro SP3 on 1 machine, Vista Home Basic (32 bit, NOT SP1) on
another. I have not seen anything different in Q2008 Deluxe between
them, but haven't compared things exhaustively."
and then asking:
"What differences should I watch out for? Generally I am backing up from
1 machine to the other, if that helps."
Your differences between XP and Vista with regard to the workings of
Quicken were what exactly?
I value your insights, so I'd like to profit from your expertise!!!
