all Fidelity Account distributions report as dividends? Art Prest 12-20-2006

It is that time of year again when mutual funds distribute their gains and I
am having problems using the Quicken 2006 On Line One Step Update with all
my non-Fidelity mutual funds (e.g., Royce Total Return) held in my Fidelity
account. All distributions are being downloaded as dividends regardless of
whether the distribution is a long term, short term, or a dividend gain. It
is really annoying in that I have to go into every account and change the
false "dividend" gains to short term or long term gains. This happens
regardless of whether the fund is being held in an IRA or brokerage account.

Is this a Fidelity problem or a Quicken problem? Is there a fix?

Have you tried looking at your account history on Fidelity's own Web
site?

My account with Fidelity is a 401(k), so what I see might not be
representative of other account types, but my account history shows
nothing but "Contributions" and "Dividends".

Yes I have looked at my Fidelity account history which is how I correct the
problem. I print out my Fidelity account history for each account and then
make the corrections in Quicken 2006. It is one royal PITA! I use to enter
the changes each month manually until February 2006 when I started using the
On Line updates. It has gotten worse IMHO in that I think that only IRAs
and 401Ks had this problem.and now all accounts have this problem.

Based on my experience, problem is not with QW and may not be with FI -
but with fund/security administrators. Find I have to wait for the
Amended 1099 forms to issue to get it all sorted out correctly -
usually early Feb - after the 'bean counters' get done crunching the
numbers.

And yes, have to go back and do some editing to match up with the
1099's.

Same with Schwab. Have to wait until March 1 to be sure the last of the
amended 1099s have been issued.
