Continue with problem (below) even after attempted fix (further below).
Please let me have your thoughts on how to solve this.

PROBLEM:
FI downloads have transactions for stock A, already on security list, but it
does NOT appear in dialog box asking if a security should be considered new
or equivalent to an existing one on list shown.
If I respond NEW, error message indicates security exists, but it's not on
list so I can't connect them.
If I don't say new, there is nothing to pair it up with, so I wind up with
stock A, stock A a, stock A b, stock A c, etc. after a number of weeks of
downloading transactions about stock A.
I also wind up with short sales and other anomalous transactions.
ATTEMPTED FIX:
Uncheck box indicating securities (stock A and all stock A x variations)
matched to online FI.
Changing transactions of all stock A x variations to stock A
Deleting all securities of stock A x variety
Letting new download reestablish connection of stock A to FI.
