I've used quicken for years in my business, upgrading to newer
versions from time to time. I'm not particularly computer literate
but generally do get by. I've found quicken to be extremely difficult
to master, but as far as I know, it is the only game in town. One of
the most exasperating problems is that some transactions in an
account, or the entire account just disappears. The odd part is that,
not only does it happen on my c-drive but the back-ups on different
flash memory devises also drop the info. Just now I have lost
important data for a new bank account that I must retrieve. I
purchased a new quicken program (For Home & Business), hoping that it
would recapture the info, but no luck.
Is there any solution to this problem?

There is an adage I remember from when I first started computer programming
"Garbage in - Garbage out". In your case, the Quicken file you had at the
time of the upgrade was missing data. Purchasing a new version of the
program and updating your data file to correspond, will not fill in any
missing transactions, as you found.

When you state "not only does it happen on my c-drive but the back-ups on
different flash memory devises also drop the info" - are you looking at the
data that was backed up BEFORE the 'drop'? The fact that the data is dropped
in the backups as well as on the C-drive is not surprising, if you made the
backups after the problem. Backups are copies of the data file. Once the
data is corrupted, any copies you make will be corrupted as well.

You can try restoring a backup from BEFORE the problem occurred. Once
opened, use the 'validate' function to help ensure the data is not corrupt.

If that doesn't help, then post back, please, with more details. What
operating system are you using? What version of Quicken were you using when
your data disappeared? What were you attempting to do at the time (data
download from a bank?).

Be as specific as you can. If you were downloading from a bank, post the
name of the financial institution, and if you initiated the download from
the Quicken software or from the bank's own website. DO NOT post any
personal information, such as account numbers, names, etc.

There are many users in this ng who may be able to help, provided you give
some more information as to the exact nature of the program.
