Nope Andrew, this was no copy paste. The entry that vanished was one
that had been made four months earlier at which time the register was
reconciled and was in balance. The subsequent months had also been
reconciled and were in balance until this item disappeared. To locate
the error I worked backward until I found a month that agreed with the
paper statements. I don't regard this as a "quirk" it is a very
serious matter. Anything could vanish if this entry could. I will
probably start looking for an alternative to Quicken.

I don't know if this is your situation, but I recently had the same
sort of problem - and it was due to my stupidity. Using Q H&B 2007
(Australian), I had downloaded and reconciled a CC account, including
a transfer from my cheque account to pay the balance. Later I
manually entered some data in the cheque account, including that
payment again to the CC account. Then, later again, when I was
reconciling the cheque account, I found the duplicated entry, and
deleted the transfer instead of the manual entry.
At least that's how I recall what caused the fun hours of chasing the
stuff-up!
Cheers,
BK

In my case, the lost transaction(s) amounted to exactly $230 and were in my CASH
account. No way to trace
it as I seldom keep receipts when I pay for something in cash as I seldom PAY
CASH. I often RECEIVE it,
though but seldom issue receipts.
