If I switch from 2006 Deluxe to 2007 Basic and then next year get 2008
Deluxe, would I lose all my attachments, investment info, and planning
data, or would all this information reappear once I install 2008
Deluxe?

Currently have both Basic and Deluxe versions running - QW07. I do
swap the same file-set back and forth - between PC and LT. No problems
doing this. Can do downloads to all accounts [checking, savings,
credit card and brokerage] from either system. I do not use the
document attachment feature.

Basic does not include the document attachment feature.
Have created a test file in Dlx w/ attachments.
Opened this file-set in Basic and can not view the attachments.
Backed up the test file in Basic to a new folder and the 'Attachment'
sub-folder was included in the backup - i.e., the attachment sub-
folder followed the data files.
I would conclude that you will not lose any attachments - but you will
not be able to view or add attachments while running Basic.

You should not lose any investment data going from Dlx to Basic.
Basic does not include the 401k account type- thus you can not create
a new 401k acct in Basic.
Interestingly, if I create a new file-set in Dlx, including a 401k
account, the 401k acct appears as such when the file is opened in
Basic.
It appears [in Basic] to include all of the characteristics of a 401k
- including the 'Update 401k' feature.
Am not able to verify this totally as do not currently have a real
401k acct at a participating FI.

Do not know what happens to info from any of the 'planners' in
switching from Dlx to Basic. Don't use the planners - that's why I am
primarily a Basic fan. If I had to guess, would say that the planning
data will also follow along unchanged. You just would not be able to
view or change it.

Meant to add that it is a guess as to what will happen with QW08 - but
based on past experience going from version to version - would not
expect significant differences in behavior as regards your query.

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to experiment and report back.
I just got back from buying both 2007 Deluxe and Basic (figuring once
I heard back from the forums, I'd be able to make a decision). After
your reading you post I'm pretty sure I'm not going to keep 2007
Deluxe; I'll probably make the upgrade to 2007 Basic. I can't imagine
I'm the first person considering this, so hopefully your post will be
helpful to more than just me.
