Just got an email from HSBC - after December 10, 2006 there is not
going to be DirectConnect any longer, only WebConnect. It's a step
backward, in my view.

Reminds me of Big Brother in 1984 heralding the "increase" in benefits when
they had actually been cut.

Do they think we're stupid or something?

Fortunately, *WE* have *LOTS* of choices besides HSBC ;-)

Changes to Personal Internet Banking access

On December 10, 2006, you will no longer be able to use the DirectConnect
feature of Quicken and Money to connect to HSBC's Personal Internet Banking
service.

However, you can still download your HSBC transactions into your
Quicken and Money software using the WebConnect feature. Simply log on to
Personal Internet Banking to perform your banking transactions, select "View
Accounts", and then "Download a File." Your account transactions can then be
imported into your Quicken and Money software.

We are dedicated to making your online experience with HSBC secure,
convenient, and easy. We are confident that, once you become accustomed to
using this new process, you will enjoy the added benefits and security you
will have using WebConnect. Thank you for your continued loyalty. If you
have any questions or concerns about the new procedure, please contact your
HSBC Relationship Manager or call 1-800-975-HSBC (1-800-975-4722).

Does this mean that we cannot pay bills through Quicken? If that is the
what it means then I will bank elseware! I called up Citi and they do
support Quicken DirectConnect as well as have competive online savings
rate (5% vs HSBC 5.05%).

Pure Web Connect downloads can not be used to pay bills using
the fi's bill pay via Quicken. Pure Web Connect has no "upload"
capability to send your payment instructions.
