A retired pro baseball player is deducting nursing home expenses and
recently received an assistance grant from a baseball foundation to help pay
for the nursing home expenses.

Should the grant be considered a reimbursement which reduces the deductible
nursing home expenses or can it be considered a gift with no tax
consequences.

Many thanks,
