I'm a US citizen working for a British firm on South Pacific
islands for the last 31 years. My domestic partner of 19
years is an Australian citizen. We live in NSW, but I am
there only 9 days ever four weeks on unpaid leave.
I have filed a US tax return annually, but never to pay US
taxes - except on investment income. The ATO does not
require me to file an Australian tax return. So my
superannuation is very high and my contributions have never
taxed by anyone.
I want to retire in two years and return to the US.
Australia will not tax my superannuation payments. Will the
US tax them? What about individual US States taxing them.
