CA state tax - W2 not required ? Gopi 10-13-2009

Hi;

I had opted for automatic tax filing extension for CA taxes for 2008
and now I need to send it by Oct 15.
When I printed tax forms using Turbotax, it states that "Do not attach
any Form(s) W-2". What does it mean ?

I thought W-2 is a must to send tax forms. Please advise.

Thanks,
-Gopi

If you are e-filing, you don't normally send anything in (except maybe a
payment of balance due, if any).

However if paper filing, California has a Schedule W-2 which allows you
to summarize all the W-2's on a single page. Turbotax is probably
filling this out for you, look for it in your printout.

California wants either the actual W-2's or Sch. W-2, not both.

Thanks Mark. Yes , Turbo-tax has printed W2-G form which needs to be
sent , not W2.

Thank you very much for quick and useful answer. This group really
rocks :)

Cheers,
-Gopi

========================================= MODERATOR'S COMMENT:
The federal Form W-2G is used to report gambling winnings. Unless
tax was witheld, it is not necessary to attach to the tax return. If this
is a separate CA form, please ignore this comment.
