Can anybody help me with this.

I work in retail and the firm I work for was bought out a
few years ago by a much bigger supermarket chain. We
continued to work under our old terms and conditions until a
few weeks ago. We were offered new terms and conditions by
the new owners. We didn't have too sign but the new terms
were much better. Everybody signed over and we received our
first pay packet today.

I was horrifed to learn I had paid a massive amount of tax
which came to roughly a quarter of my gross pay. Most of the
other staff got hammered by the tax man as well !

Can somebody tell me why this as happened ?

The Managers at my workplace have no time for us so it would
be a waste of time asking them !

I live in England.

Thanks !

This is an English-speaking newsgroup only because I lack
the education in other languages. I hope someone can
assist the OP by asking the right questions in order to
explain the situation.

Also managers are NOT supose to engage in productive labor.
There job is to solve problems such as this one.
