My wife passed away in May of '08. There were attorney's expenses and
funeral expenses and incidental expenses (mailing & insuring of many
documents, etc.). How and where do I apply these expenses to my return?

My condolences on your loss. Unfortunately these are nondeductible personal
expenses.

If estate tax is at issue or the estate must file an income tax return your
attorney will advise you, but there's nothing here other than her final
medical bills that affects your 1040.

Form 706. These are not deductible on a 1040.
