I'm planning to file my 1040 for federal, and 1NPR
(non-resident) for wisconsin. Since Wisconsin doesn't
support efiling 1NPR (only if you are a resident of certain
other states which I do not qualify for); Can I efile my
1040, and paper file my 1NPR. When filing 1NPR, WI typically
requires me to attach a copy of my federal return. How do I
do that if I'm e-filing my federal return. Do I just take a
print out of the 1040, and then have both me and my spouse
sign-it, or do I just send it without signatures. A little
confused..
Thanks for your help in advance.

Sure you can. We efile Federal plus California but
sometimes have to paper file one or the other (often because
ot the rather silly California restrictions on deceased
taxpayers). And I have a client who does Federal and
Colorado (his home state) electronically but we file a
non-resident New York by paper - with paper attachments of
the Federal.
Yes it gets confusing, but it's quite normal and usual.

Yes.

Print two copies of your Federal return, one for your files
and one to attach to the WI return. No signatures required
unless WI instructions tell you to send a signed copy.

I believe that you are correct; just print out a copy of
your e-filed Federal return and send it with your Wisconsin
return. I don't think you need to sign it for WI since you
already signed electronically for the feds.

I would print the 1040, add signatures and send it with the
WI return. As long as you provide a copy to WI it doesn't
matter whether you filed a paper 1040 or efiled it. Whether
the signature is necessary or not, it can't hurt anything to
give them the signatures just in case they want it signed.
