Fear comes from uncertainty. Taxes can be complex, and if we
do them ourselves, we wonder if we did it right. If we hired
a professional, we wonder about his/her ability to do it
right. We wonder about the IRS, because the news stories
always emphasize the big, high-profile cases. As a
professional tax preparer, I now know that getting a letter
from the IRS is usually no big deal. You just respond to the
letter with an explanation, fix any mistakes, and that's
usually the end of it. But for someone with no experience,
those CP2000 letters fill their hearts with dread.
