I left the UK on April 21st 2008 to work in the Middle East and have
returned for less than four weeks in each year.
I was working in the UK until April 18th and claimed the tax back for
the couple weeks in that tax year.
I filled in the appropriate form and informed my tax office that I was
leaving the country and was taking on non-resident status.
I have been told by a colleague that I would have to remain outside
the UK for a full tax year and that because I didn't leave before the
start of the 2008 tax year I will now have to remain outside the UK
until the new tax year starts in April 2010 or face the prospect of
paying tax on all my overseas earnings.
I would really like to come back sooner if that were possible.
I would be very grateful for any advice and would particularly
appreciate any links to relevant references.
Many thanks in advance.
